Where’s Best to Buy Call of Juarez: Gunslinger?

The next game in Techland’s tried-and-tested Call of Juarez series is out tomorrow and rather than being a fully fledged boxed release, Ubisoft has elected to make the Wild West shooter only available via download.

If you’re purchasing the release on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, then your choices are unsurprisingly restricted to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live respectively, but if you want to snap up the first-person sequel on PC then the choices available are surprisingly varied.

For PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the price of Gunslinger is £11.99 or 1200 Microsoft Points depending on which console platform you choose, but on PC you can snap up Call of Juarez for just £8.99 from GreenManGaming. The online retailer has slashed the regular RRP by £3 and with that substantial percentage saving you also get a copy of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, which functions as a prequel to the original Call of Juarez. This deal is substantially better than any other offered by retailers, including Steam, ShopTo.Net and even Ubisoft’s own uPlay store, all of which are going for the regular £11.99 price-point, or a few pence cheaper.

That said, GreenManGaming aren’t offering the Gunslinger’s only other pre-order bonus which has been dubbed the ‘Legendary Weapon Pack’ – available from uPlay. Unfortunately we have no idea what this set includes, but we suspect it’s just a bunch of skins and a couple of extra guns. Nothing too fancy, and certainly nothing worth paying an extra £3 for, especially as there any option to flaunt these ‘Legendary’ weapons online, as Gunslinger doesn’t feature any multiplayer functionality.

We can’t speak to the quality of Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, but it’s good to know that at least one retailer out there is offering a good deal on the download-only Wild West FPS.

The spectre that is E3 looms ever larger on the horizon, but that hasn’t stopped a selection of big titles arriving on retail and digital shelves this week. The return of Nintendo’s favourite gorilla is undoubtedly the highlight in what is otherwise a rather tepid release window, but most gamers will find something worth getting excited about.

Go get some bananas!

Those with keen eyes will notice that there aren’t any Xbox Live or PlayStation Network games on this list, and that’s because we don’t have any information from Microsoft or Sony about what’s heading to their respective platform-exclusive networks in Europe yet. When that changes, as it inevitably does, we’ll update this article post-haste.

Unfortunately Nintendo still doesn’t allow potential buyers to peruse their online store via internet browsers, so for the time being we don’t have any price comparisons available for digital-only Wii U and 3DS titles.

Rayman Legends: Pre-Order Bonuses Spotted

Ubisoft has announced that they’ve partnered up with GAME to offer up three exclusive skins for the highly anticipated platformer sequel Rayman Legends. Rather than offering each skin with each edition of the GAME, Ubisoft has elected to tie them to specific platforms, with WiiU, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users getting their own single exclusive skin for use with either Rayman or Barbara characters in-game.

They are as follows:

For Nintendo Wii U Barbara is dressed in Aveline De Grandpré, the first legendary female Assassin from Assassin’s Creed III Liberation
For PlayStation 3, Rayman is dressed in Edward Kenway, the new hero of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag
For Xbox 360, Rayman is dressed in Sam Fisher, the famous spy agent of Splinter Cell Blacklist

Currently GAME doesn’t mention the bonus on their official site, but we’ve been assured by Ubisoft that these pre-order bonuses will be offered with the standard version of Rayman legends, as long as you buy it from GAME.

Thus far Ubisoft has been quiet regarding a PC release for Rayman Legends, but seeing as the previous release Origins appeared as a digital-only release we suspect a mouse and keyboard-optimised version is in the works.

Games Out This Week, Starring Metro: Last Light

Ten is a good number when it comes to new releases in any week, but in May this amount of releases is a god send. We’d even go as far as to call this time of pre-E3 period a wasteland of broken promises and hastily released shovel-ware usually, but this week that label isn’t really accurate at all.

Metro: Last Light’s campaign has echoes of Half Life 2 mixed with Stalker.

On the physical release front we have Metro: Last Light leading the way boasting the kind of intense first-person narrative you rarely get in the blockbuster obsessed modern games industry, and we also have for you a host of digital releases, including two new Tower Defense mash-ups – Sanctum 2 and Anomaly 2 – which are certainly worth your time.

This past week the freeform space MMO EVE Online turned 10 and to prepare players for another ten years mining, double crossing peers and venturing through space, the game’s developer CCP has announced a special Collector’s Edition to be released on October 1st.

The set looks nice enough, but it’s really the digital goodies that excuse the high price point.

EVE: The Second Decade Collector’s Edition is being described as a must have for all Eve fans and is priced at an eye-watering 149.99EUR. That isn’t to say you don’t get a lot for your money though. Here’s a list of all the physical contents in the set:

190-page Hardcover “Into the Second Decade” fully-illustrated history book, celebrating the EVE Universe from creation to the integration of DUST 514.
“Minmatar Rifter” combat frigate 4-port USB hub (Dim: 7”Lx7”Wx2”H) brings one of the most popular ships in EVE history to your real-life desktop.
EVE Symphony Soundtrack CD, recorded live during the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra performance at Fanfest 2013.

If you pre-order this set from EVE Online‘s official website you’ll also snap up the the savage “Nefantar Thrasher” attack ship for EVE Online and the Amarr Drop Uplink, a permanent item spawn point generator, for DUST 514. In North America this set is being sold at various online retailers, whereas in the UK it only seems to be available through CCP.

Games Out this Week, Starring Persona 4: Arena

When it comes to new releases, this week has to be the quietest of the year thus far. In total there’s only six new games heading to PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, 3DS and Vita, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to get excited about.

Minis on the Move is moderately priced at £8.99.

Nintendo are dipping their toes in the digital-only waters with the eShop exclusive game, Mario & Donkey: Minis on the Move, whereas on the physical release front Persona 4: Arena makes its long-awaited debut in Europe, despite the fact it’s been out in North America for near enough ten months! Here’s hoping it will be worth the wait…

Sony Announces Beyond: Two Souls Special Edition

The release of Beyond: Two Souls is not until October, but Sony has today detailed the contents of a new collector’s edition dedicated to Quantic Dream’s PS3-exclusive release

Beyond’s default campaign is ten hours long, so the extra thirty-minute slice available in the Special Edition represents a considerable value-add.

The Beyond: Two Souls Special Edition includes the following bonuses:

- Premium steel book packaging
- Additional playable scene (30 mins gameplay)
- Behind The Scenes video features
- Official soundtrack
- Dynamic theme & avatar pack

Earlier this week it was widely reported that Beyond: Two Souls main campaign is only 10 hours long, so we suspect this exclusive 30-minute scene can’t be terribly important. That said, it is odd that Sony has affectively blocked this content off from purchasers of Beyond’s regular edition, after all you’d suspect the publisher would want to extend the life of this single-player only product for as long as possible, if only to stave off off the inevitable trade-in factor post-launch.

In raw number terms alone this exclusive gameplay segement represents 5% of Beyond: Two Souls’ whole running time, so it seems a shame to pack it into the Special Edition and nowhere else.

Currently we’ve only seen this set listed via Amazon and Zavvi, but the good news is that it’s priced only a few pounds more than the regular edition of Beyond: Two Souls, so if you’re definitely going to pre-order David Cage’s story-driven adventure we recommend you put your money down quick to avoid disappointment.

Watch Dogs Collector’s Editions Detailed

Ubisoft has announced that the open world hack-em-up Watch Dogs will be released in the UK on November 22nd, 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, WiiU and PC, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 versions to come later. In total there will be five editions available at launch, two of which are exclusive to GAME, one is exclusive to Ubisoft’s own uPlay shop and the three others are on general release.

Needless to say Ubisoft is betting big on Watch Dogs by creating a considerable number of editions to allow potential pre-orderers to spend extra money on a host of physical and digital extras including a 23cm Aiden Pearce figurine, soundtrack CD and a host of digital bonus content.

On the pre-order bonus front, Amazon is offering a multiplayer pack which grants additional skins, faction tokens and skills. It’s unclear what impact these elements will have on Watch Dogs gameplay, but we suspect more retailers will have similar multiplayer-centric bonuses the closer this game gets to launch.

Diablo III Console Plans Revealed

Diablo III comes to PlayStation 3 this year and if retailers are to be believed PlayStation 4 as well. Forget that for the time being though, as Blizzard has detailed what features and bonuses the PlayStation 3 version of this title will offer.

“That’s a mighty fine hat you’ve got yourself there.”

All pre-orders of Diablo III on PlayStation 3 will come with an item dubbed, the ‘Infernal Helm.’ This special piece of kit is wearable by all five classes in the game and drastically increases the amount of EXP a character earns during their adventures. This means characters will level and gain advanced skills quicker, reducing the progression curve substantially.

The console version of Diablo III also lacks any kind of real-money cash shop functionality which allows Blizzard to introduce offline play in addition to online, and there will also be the option for four players to play local split-screen co-op.

Diablo III is expected to be released for PlayStation 3 later this year.

Interestingly the latest communication from Blizzard failed to mention a PlayStation 4 version of Diablo III, but seeing as prominent members of the studio appeared at Sony’s big reveal conference for their next gen console back in February, we know it’s still in the works.
