The games industry is a funny place sometimes. Despite there being relatively little information regarding Bungie’s next genre-defining shooter Destiny, all the big retailers in the UK have just launched product pages for it – allowing prospective players to commit to buying the game perhaps years before it finally launches.
Now we understand that Bungie’s last franchise Halo is still one of the best-selling franchises in all of gaming, but with Bungie yet to even show off even a screenshot of Destiny in action it’s hard to understand why anybody would put their money down this early – especially without knowing information like a definitive release date, pre-order bonuses, special editions and the like.
Lack of information is just one side of this equation though, as retailers are asking for £44.99 for the Xbox 360 version of Destiny, whereas the PlayStation 3 flavour is even more expensive at £49.99 which frankly we think is way too expensive.
Yes, Destiny does appear very ambitious and the developers certainly seem excited about it, but do yourself a favour. By all means check out the prices available on our dedicated Destiny product page, but we don’t suggest putting any money down until the retailers share with the world what pre-order bonuses they’re willing to offer. Knowing Activision there will be lots of them and a Collector’s Edition to boot.
Put on your clever hat and stow the enthusiasm for now, it’ll save you money in the long run…
