Battlefield 4 was only officially announced yesterday morning, but that hasn’t stopped Electronic Arts’ Origin store and other major retailers putting up pre-order pages and incentives for the highly anticipated shooter sequel.
We won’t get into the discussion about how pointless it is to put down a pre-order on a game this far in advance of its release, or the fact that it’s going to be rather easy to snap up a copy of Battlefield 4 come release day, instead we’ll just give you the pre-order bonuses as we understand them.
Currently there are only two versions of Battlefield 4 confirmed for retailers. The regular edition which comes with a code to download the first premium expansion released for the shooter and the second is the Digital Deluxe edition exclusive to Origin. This more expensive version includes unrevealed bonus content and more importantly access to Battlefield 4′s online beta. Currently the Digital Deluxe version is only available for PC, but that doesn’t mean Battlefield 4 won’t have beta testing opportunities for console owners.
EA deployed a similar pre-order tactic for Battlefield 3, so we presume there will be opportunities to beta test Battlefield 4 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and most likely next-gen consoles later on down the line.

Our advice regarding Battlefield 4 pre-orders would be to wait until more tangible pre-order benefits have been sorted out at retailers. GAME no doubt will have their own exclusive edition, if past precedent is anything to go by, and other retailers will have their own deals and game giveaways, so it’s best to wait to get the most bang for your buck.
